I am From Poem

I am From

I am from Joyce and Lawrence,
but a family for four.

I am from struggle and strain,
and growing up too soon.

I am from happiness and joy,
from peace and security.

I am from an emphasis on mutual respect,
and a love for one and other.

I am the girl who grew up with twin boys.

I am from the conflicting views of
"You wear your heart on your sleeve",
and "Honesty is the best poilcy".

I am from the rolling hills and far away fields.

I am from independance,
and a passion to learn ever more.

I am from "Stand up for what you believe in",
and "Help others to flourish".

I am from the hustle and bustle,
the architecture and the beauty.

I am a girl from a small village,
a community and a close family unit,
all of which make me who I am today.

"Home is where the heart is"

  1. I like the rhythm and assonance of all of your lines, I can hear your voice in them.
I really like the lines "I am from the hustle and bustle,/ the architecture and the beauty" it creates these two very different images in my mind--one of people churning through streets, the other of stately buildings, watching and waiting while all the people pass by--a sharp contrast of static and dynamic.
Your craftsmanship shines in the lines "
I am from struggle and strain,/ and growing up too soon./ I am from happiness and joy,/ from peace and security" again shows your interest in balancing the difficulties with the joys in your life, both deeply important and essential to who you are.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem with us.
